Efficient Token-Based Control in Rings
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we deal with the efficiency of token-based strategies for the basic problem of controlling the allocation of a shared resource in a ring of n processing entities. We propose new protocols that allow a bounded number of exchanged messages per access request to the resource, while this amount is unbounded for classical solutions. We also guarantee all the requests to be served within a maximum delay. The new proposed protocols are request-message-based strategies, in that a process entity sends a message to “inform” the token of the access request.

ESTR - Energy Saving Token Ring Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks
Most wireless sensor networks rely on battery energy. In applications with a great number of sensor nodes and a wide area of monitored environment it is not always feasible to replace the battery. In some cases, even the location of the sensor node is unknown. In order to achieve a long lifetime of the sensor network and the application it is important to save energy. A sensor node consumes the...
متن کاملShort-Packet Transfer Performance in Local Area Rings
The performance of various access control protocols for high-speed, bit-serial, computer communication rings is studied. Local Area Computer Network (LACN) applications in which message packets are of fixed length and shorter than the total inherent propagation delay around the ring are the focus of attention. Token, slotted, and static and dynamic insertion rings are included in the study. In ...
متن کامل- 1 - An Efficient Reliable Ring protocol
In slottedand token-rings, transmission errors and station failures may induce livelocks and deadlocks. In the present paper we address the problem of ring recovery from such faulty situations. We present a new protocol and prove that it recovers from any combination of transmission errors and station failures in at most S ring revolutions. The protocol requires no information about the current...
متن کاملMultiple Logical Token-Rings in a Single High-Speed Ring
The present paper describes a MAC protocol for a high-speed ring with multiple tokens. The purpose of this protocol is to increase the throughput and to improve the delay-throughput characteristic of high-speed token-rings. The main concept of the new MAC protocol is to maintain several logical token-rings in the single physical ring. Each logical ring has its own token, and its operation is cl...
متن کاملAn Improved Token-Based and Starvation Free Distributed Mutual Exclusion Algorithm
Distributed mutual exclusion is a fundamental problem of distributed systems that coordinates the access to critical shared resources. It concerns with how the various distributed processes access to the shared resources in a mutually exclusive manner. This paper presents fully distributed improved token based mutual exclusion algorithm for distributed system. In this algorithm, a process which...
